F55 2014 Armrest charger only charging iPhone - no media integration

*** Help Question *** Re the multi-media system and arm rest clip in charger. I recently got a newer version of the clip in charger (now fits an iPhone XR) fitted, however when the phone clips in it isn't recognized by the head unit. It charges fine, and connects to BT as usual, however the clip-in icon does not activate on the head unit. The car is a 08/2014 model with the upgraded head unit, and BMW MINI have not been able to confirm or not if it should be working. Any advice welcome.
