Spy shots model 2007

04 nov 2005, 18:45

Hier wat spy-shots van de nieuwe MINI 2007;

The all-new next-generation MINI models aren't due until 2007, but later this year, a new series of engines will be offered in the current model. These will replace the Chrysler-sourced petrol and Toyota diesel units currently fitted, and have been developed from scratch in co-operation with PSA Peugeot-Citroen. There are two 1.6-litre units, one normally-aspirated with variable valve timing (115bhp) and the other a direct-injection, turbocharged unit (143bhp), and we can also expect a more powerful PSA diesel. Engines for the MINI will be built at Hams Hall in the UK. Expect also transmission modifications and minor tweaks to the suspension to accommodate the new engines.

For the Mk2, the basic recipe for the hatchbacks won't change much, bar revisions to the suspension and slightly tweaked front end styling. The wheelbase will be stretched a little, though, and the boot slightly extended, for more rear legroom and improved luggage space. Convertible versions will continue, but the MK2 range is also expected to include a low-slung two-seater roadster and a mini-estate station wagon - a Clubman for the new generation.

The new Mini should debut at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show

11 nov 2005, 16:39

Second-Generation Mini Will be More Than Just a Coupe and Convertible
OXFORD, England ? The next-generation Mini range will have six distinct body styles, according to leaked documents.

The new Mini is due in 2007, and as well as straight replacements for the existing three-door hatch and two-door cabrio versions, there will be five-door, roadster, pickup and wagon derivatives.

The new Mini will come in two wheelbase lengths, allowing the development of three new versions. The long-wheelbase versions will be a Clubman five-door, with rear-hinged rear passenger doors like the Mazda RX-8 and van-style twin rear doors, reminiscent of the 1960s original Mini Countryman wagon.

There will also be a three-door wagon with flexible cargo space, and a two-door pickup, which would see a revival of the Mini Moke name. The original Moke was a utilitarian, stripped-down Mini off-roader.

In addition, there will be a new short-wheelbase roadster derivative, which will have a removable hardtop in place of the cabrio's canvas roof.

The new models are designed to broaden the appeal of the Mini, while using a common platform and not making radical changes to the Mini's looks. The biggest mechanical changes will be new engines: BMW diesels made in England rather than Brazil, and Peugeot diesels in place of Toyota motors used at present.

The new Mini should debut at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, with the first of the new variants, the Clubman, arriving in 2008. Geneva International Motor Show (March 2-12, 2006)

What this means to you: A Mini to suit every taste, while staying true to the car's heritage. BMW is developing quite a little franchise with its retro Brit.
