Well, after the thread title, is there anyone who, at least, has tried it? Or just thought about it? Do you think that is possible?

In this club NewMINIclub, there is no active member who has done or tried this.

I'd say the biggest challenge is fitting the engine in the totally different engine mounts. The available space in the R53 engine compartment is also smaller, because of different shape of bonnet.

But if it fits, why not try?
Converting supercharged to turbocharged is work, that should be doable.

I would say, that if you investigate carefully, it would also be possible to fit other engines. I'd first check Chrysler for their engines then, since the Gen1 model also has an engine that fits Chrysler Neon. Maybe they have some neat 2.0 litre engine that would fit (and thus maybe giving a higher bhp potential)?

There have been several successful builds with 2.0 TSFI engines.

Nice projects but for me the challenge lies in getting the most out of the original engine and the total car without removing the 1st gen Mini (R53) soul.

There are a lot of problems with those engines, if you would do such a conversion, i would fit in another engine... Why not a bmw engine? THAT would be sick :)

It fits!
But you need R56 motorbrackets, ECU, Wiring, FMIC etc...

Berthil, you're quite right about the R53 soul, and that's why I was thinking of a also-Mini engine, although not R53.
